Pundit's Pick - Saturday 22nd Feb

Sao Carlos 7/2 (15.44 Chepstow)

Olly murphy has his stable going great guns at the moment and can increase his  impressive strike rate with this son of Blue Bresil. He was quickly reverted back to 2m after attempts at 2m4 and it was a much better effort in 3rd at Warwick after a short break but, having attempted to front run he kind of set the race up for closers that day having been headed 2 out. He had zambezi fix behind that day will suit better with a bit more emphasis on jumping and stamina in his favour. No disrespect to Jack Tudor but i'd also see Sean Bowen taking over as an upgrade - he's currently and my hope is he can sit in behind the pace which looks likely to be contested by current fav Bucephalus, who made all at Newbury just holding on under today's claiming jockey. H.but has to carry another 7lb today.

'The Forecast' -

Rubaud 6/4 (13.50 Kempton)

Paul Nichols knows exactly what it takes to win this race having saddled 6 of the last 10 winners! and this time around he's aimed Rubaud at the prize. A smart hurdler and 3 time course winner, he ended last year on a high taking listed and graded races at kempton and wincantona nd he's quickly proved he's just as good if not even better over fences.

While he may have been flattered by his distance to L'eau Du Sud at Warwick he finished well clear of the rest and wasnt stopping at the line. Our model is placing strong value on his experience at this level and considering his finshing sectionals, is confident he can see out the extra yardage. aAshdale Bob has a penalty to carry and Imperial Saint has to prove himself in open company. A lot of boxes ticked in favour makes this selection our AI's best bet today.

Balboa - J.W. Mullins

(Wetherby R & C Centre Handicap Hurdle 12/02)

A big eye‑catcher at Wetherby this week! Despite being a 28/1 long‑shot on the day, he seemed to thrive under the testing conditions and showed plenty of potential scope.

Having been held up in rear Gavin Sheehan and his mount had started making headway as the pack set for home. He gained ground on the leaders quite impressively and appeared poised to challenge for a higher placing. Unfortunately, a costly mistake three out lost him valuable ground and a heap of momentum but he recovered well and stayed on to finish only 3.5 lengths off the winner West to The Bridge. Without that mistake he looked certain to finish much closer and may have even gone on to win. A horse to follow for sure.
